About Me!
I have been teaching first grade for four years. I have been using a document camera and projector in my room for the last two years. This is a great way to allow the children to have more interaction with their learning. This also allows us to find many great websites that will help to enhance learning. I currently have a blog that allows my students and parents to go to links that they can work on activities at home. I am hoping that by having a blog, I can keep parents informed, and get the students excited about learning. they do not respond to me on my blog yet, as many are not familiar with the internet without parental supervision. Next year I will be teaching 2nd grade, and I will have no technology in my room, so I am counting on the blogs to keep them interested and motivated about technology until we get some in our classroom again.

Great that you use a blog with your classroom. Is it secure so that only your parents/students can access it? It's been an issue here in our district. Do students get to post on the blog or share what they do in class? Your classroom sounds great!
ReplyDeleteHi Tami I am glad to be in your group for discussion, sounds like you enjoy using technology in your classroom and look for ways to make it work for your students. Do you have a classroom website? My son's teacher has a link through the school's sight and does a nice job keeping parents informed with it. It is not interactive like a blog, but helpful. I taught second grade social studies and religion for a few years - it was challenge sometimes to go from a class of 7/8th graders to 2nd graders in the same day - but I found I could much of the same things with the 2nd graders, I just had to make the expectations a bit easier - but it was helpful for them to learn the 'language' of the older kids rather than 'dumbing' it down for them (for example, I didn;t talk about 'naming' words for nouns, I just called it a noun and didn't talk about 'choices' only, but made sure to use the phrase 'opportunity cost'. Good luck with 2nd grade, at least you have the summer to prepare and aren't finding out a week before school starts!
